[[ CURRENT TYPE ]] PalmPilot Pro. 1MB RAM card -->> 2MB RAM card

The PalmPilot Professional 1MB RAM board is very different from the original Pilot RAM cards.
170-0087-__ will be silkscreened on the front of the board.
Look on the BACK of the board for "160-0222 REV A" silkscreened on the board.

How to upgrade 1MB to 2MB
Install a TC518512AFT-80V in locations U3 & U4 on a 1MB board. Install a TC7S08FTE85L chip in location U6.

Detailed Steps to successful completion:

  1. These chips are VERY static sensitive. Lay a sheet of foil on your work area so everything is at the same relative static level. Touch the foil with your hand before picking up anything. Keep everything on the foil. Do NOT open the package your chip came in until you are ready to install it.
  2. Use a 20W pencil iron or smaller. Radio Shack sells one for less than $10 that will work. Do not overheat the chips or the circuit board. Use very thin solder and use it sparingly.
  3. Put a small amount of solder on two corner pins on the chip. Then place the chip and align it. While holding the chip in place, touch the top of the pins you put solder on with the iron. Leave the iron in place only long enough to melt the solder.
  4. Once you have the chip held in place, solder the remaining pins to the board. Use as little solder as possible!
  5. [Only Early Type] To add the jumper at R4, simply solder a short piece of thin wire across the connectors at R4.
  6. Install your 1MB board into your Pilot and hit the Reset button.
  7. Check in the Memory App. to verify the additional memory.
  8. Hotsync. You did remember to Hotsync before you started? Didn't you?
